YLS Wills for Heroes - October 27
The YLS will host a special Pro Bono Week Wills for Heroes event on Saturday, October 27, 2012, 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at the Geneva Fire Department, 200 E. Side Dr., Geneva. Volunteers are needed to create complimentary wills, living wills, and other estate planning documents for local emergency first responders and their spouses or partners. There will be a brief volunteer training from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. and document preparation will take place from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. To volunteer, click here to fill out RSVP survey. Since November 2001, the Wills for Heroes program has prepared over 6,000 estate-planning documents for first responders.
YLS Legal Prep Charter Academies Clean Up – November 3
On the morning of Saturday, November 2, 2012, join the YLS and the students and staff of Legal Prep to clean up the community around Legal Prep Charter Academy. 15 volunteers are needed. Legal Prep is located at 4319 W. Washington St. (approx. 1 mile from the Pulaski-Forest Park stop of the CTA blue line.). The clean up will go from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Come for an hour, stay for the entire time! Snacks and lunch will be provided. To volunteer, email yls [at] chicagobar.org.
YLS Repack Night at GCFD - November 7
Spend an evening serving the community while getting to know other young lawyers! The YLS needs volunteers to work at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Volunteers will work on the repacking line inspecting, cleaning, and sorting donated products for distribution to soup kitchens, pantries, and homeless shelters. Volunteers must wear long pants, sleeved shirts and closed shoes with nonskid soles. Volunteers are also asked to bring an item of canned or non-perishable food.The GCFD is located on the Southwest side of Chicago (not far from Midway Airport). YLS Serving Our Seniors - November 7
The YLS Public Outreach Committee is teaming-up with the Center for Disability & Elder Law (CEDEL) for a Serving Our Seniors event on November 7, 2012, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Kingston Place, 7435 S. Kingston, Chicago (accessible via the Metra from the Van Buren Station in the Loop to the Windsor Park Metra Electric stop). Volunteers earn CLE credit while drafting estate planning documents for low-income seniors draft. Estate planning experience is not necessary.
Participating volunteers need to attend a CLE hosted by CEDEL from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on November 7 at CBA Headquarters, 321 South Plymouth Court, Chicago (if you have previously completed the CLE you can simply meet us at the service event).

CBA Moot Court Competition (Volunteers Needed) - November 15-17
The Young Lawyers Section will host its 31st Annual Moot Court Competition on November 15-17, 2012, at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago. This year we have 30 teams competing from across the country. The YLS needs attorneys to act as competition judges and brief graders. Volunteer brief graders are asked to review and critique approximately 4-5 briefs near the middle of October and volunteer competition judges are needed on the evenings of November 15 and 16 (5:30 or 7:30 p.m.). Competition judges may be eligible to earn Illinois MCLE credit (for more information, contact the CLE Department).
