FERP: Phase 4 Registration & Bids

As a reminder, FERP registration and bids for Phase 4 are due by Noon on Wednesday, August 31, 2011.  All subsequent phases will have the same simultaneous registration/bid deadline.  This phase includes:

  • US Army JAG Corps*
  • US Securities & Exchange Commission**
  • Cook County State's Attorney's Office**

*The US Army JAG Corps has suspended its spring accession board due to budget cuts so they will not be back on campus again in the fall. Don't delay your application, which is due November 1, 2011, so that the JARO can assist you with any missing pieces.

**If you are interested in postgraduate positions with either of these offices for 2012, per these employers' requirements, you MUST bid for an interview through our FERP process. Full FERP registration is required.

Preparing for FERP

As you prepare to bid on employers participating in our FERP (Fall Employer Recruitment Program), remember to set aside time to complete all the steps.  This blog post by Josh Camson provides fantastic insight on the overall process, but for specifics on our processes here at DePaul, start with the Annoucements Section when you login to Sympllicity.  From there, you can access the deadlines, FERP Orientation video, list of participating employers, and a whole raft of FAQs.  As a reminder, you need your undergrad and law school transcripts for many employers so ordering those early and ensuring you have access to a scanner is crucial.  Don't wait until the last minute - there are too many small steps that must be completed to rush through it all.

Please don't forget that we're here to help you all summer as well.  Stop by, call, email -- just please, no pigeons!

Professionalism - A Way of Life

The legal profession is a community that you joined on the first day of orientation, and it is a community that is continuously concerned about reputation. Until the day you retire (and beyond if you continue to engage in your community through voluntarism, social events, etc), your reputation as a lawyer is continuously being developed, evolving, and being challenged.  Based on your behavior in class and even in the hall, your classmates and the faculty and staff have begun to assess your professionalism.  Their opinions matter when it comes time to seek out research assistants, make client referrals, send interesting job leads your way, or even just provide notes for the class you missed.
