Measuring the Unmeasureable

One thing that makes a stellar employee stand out from the pack is good judgment.  Many supervisors won't articulate it that way, and while the common sense part of good judgment can't be taught, you can train yourself to not act rashly, to take the time to gather enough information to make the most appropriate decision and allocation  of resources.  How have you demonstrated good judgment for a supervisor or other recommender lately? Simple things like:
  • Thank you notes -- thank anyone who has given of their time, expertise, and wisdom.
  • Follow through -- follow-up with anyone to whom you were referred, politely, and within the context expected.
  • Status updates -- does your support circle know what you are looking for and what you've been doing to get there?
  • Kept quiet -- do you listen (no, REALLY listen) when others speak? And do you keep their confidential information to yourself?
Just some thoughts on the ways that you can exercise good judgment daily.
