Registration DUE May 31st for Cook County Bar Association's Minority Job Fair

The Cook County Bar Association (“CCBA”) is pleased to invite students to participate in the 29th Annual CCBA Minority Law Student Job Fair (“Job Fair”).  In an effort to keep the student-to-employer ratio as low as possible, the CCBA is only inviting J.D. students in the classes of 2014 (Rising 2Ls) and 2013 (Rising 3Ls). Please note that students graduating during or before January 2012 (current 3Ls) are not eligible.

The Job Fair typically attracts more than 800 students from eligible U.S. law schools.  Each year law firms, corporations, and governmental agencies register for the Job Fair.  These employers are located primarily in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin.    In addition, we attract several employers from California, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Nebraska, and North Carolina.  For more information, please see visit our informational website at www.ccbaminorityjobfair.org.

The CCBA Job Fair primarily is designed to obtain summer associate positions for rising 2Ls during their second summer in law school.  A limited number of employers also wish to interview rising 3Ls for entry level associate positions.  Rising 3Ls, please be aware that Job Fair interview slots for rising 2Ls (current 1Ls) typically outnumber those for rising 3Ls (current 2Ls) by a 3:1 ratio.

Etiquette Tip of the Week: Cocktail (or Mocktail) Refresher

If you have a cocktail (or mocktail), here are a few reminders:

Do not try and sip through that tiny little straw -- that is a stir stick.  Use it to stir your drink, then discard it (preferably to a waste receptacle and not between the cushions of a chair or couch).

Making Symplicity Work for You: Job Search Agents

A great way for alumni and students to utilize Symplicity’s Job Posting section is to make use of the Job Search Agent feature. Job Search Agents are specialized listings of job postings within the Symplicity system that YOU create the criteria for. Instead of having to constantly check the system for new jobs, or create new searches each time you log-in, Symplicity does the work for you once the Search Agent is set up! Directions Below:

1)    Log into Symplicity (law.depaul.edu/jobs)

2)    Under the Job Posting Tab, Click on Advanced Search.

3)    Title your search and check the “save as” box

4)    Tailor your search by selecting specific criteria such as geographic area, class level, and practice area.

5)    Click the Submit button after filling out the search criteria. It is recommended that you set up multiple Search Agents if you have multiple geographic or practice areas of interest.

6)    Your Search Agent will now appear under the Search Agent Sub-Tab under the Job Postings Tab.

7)    You can schedule your search agent to send results to your email on a weekly, monthly, even daily basis using the Schedule Run feature.

Questions? Contact Law Career Services at Law_Career@depaul.edu or (312) 362-8385. You can also stop by our 340 O’Malley office to have a staff member assist you in setting up an agent.
