Volunteer Opportunities

Alliance for Women Gift Card Collection Drive: Help the AFW's Domestic Violence Task Force & Advocacy Subcommittee to empower survivors of domestic violence receiving shelter at Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) this holiday season. Small-denomination gift cards for stores such as Target, Jewel, or CVS - for just $10, $20, or $25 - enable CAWC's clients to buy what they might not have taken when they fled a violent situation: clothes to wear to work, shampoo, or diapers for their children. Bring gift cards to the AFW holiday party on December 15 or mail or deliver to Angie Cruz, CBA, 321 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago, IL 60604. Gift cards will be accepted through January 31, 2012.

Animal Care Holiday Drive: The CBA Animal Law Committee is collecting pet care items to donate to the City of Chicago's Animal Care & Control Center at the CBA through December 17. Items needed include leashes, food bowls, dog toys, laundry detergent, kitty litter, and towels. Items can be dropped in the CBA lobby at 321 S. Plymouth Ct.

YLS Children's Book Drive Drop Off Through December 9: Donate new and gently-used children's books to the Young Lawyers Section's Annual Children's Book Drive. Books will be provided to local homeless shelters, the children's waiting room at the Daley Center, the Carole Robertson Center for Learning, the Cook County Juvenile Justice Center, and the William C. Goudy Elementary School. Collect books at your firm and drop off the books in the CBA Lobby, 321 S. Plymouth Ct., through December 9.

Dear Santa Letters: Help a child enjoy the holidays...answer a Dear Santa Letter! The YLS will be distributing "Dear Santa" letters provided by Direct Effect Charities, a group that receives thousands of letters from disadvantaged youth from Chicago Public Schools requesting gifts from Santa. Simply select a letter, purchase a few items the child has requested, and mail the package. Letters are available at the CBA (321 S. Plymouth Ct.) or if you would like to distribute letters at your firm, contact Jenni Bertolino at 312-554-2031 or yls@chicagobar.org. Complete instructions will be attached to the letter.

CBF Pro Bono Support Program: Pro bono programs in and around Chicago have a variety of opportunities for you to help, and the CBF is available to help you find a pro bono opportunity that fits your skills, interests and availability. The CBF Pro Bono Opportunities Guide is designed to help you find a pro bono program that fits your needs. For a hard copy of the Guide or for more information on pro bono opportunities, contact CBF Pro Bono Director Kelly Tautges at ktautges@chicagobar.org or visit www.chicagobarfoundation.org.
