MPILCC is coming!

The Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference is coming on Saturday, February 5th! Even if you did not pre-register, you can attend and bid for interviews on-site.  Student registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and all students with interviews must check-in before 8:30 a.m. or their interviews will be forfeited.  For those early birds (whether registering on-site or checking in from preregistration), you will receive a lottery number which will enable you to bid for open interview slots.

PICs Picks: Career Fairs & Receptions

As law students begin to determine their interests in law school, participating in conferences, career fairs and receptions are an important way to learn about practice areas and expand their networking efforts. These opportunities provide a wealth of information and guidance because these events are designed so that agencies and organizations can gather to share information about their work and the types of people they hire as interns, attorneys, and program directors. These events provide an opportunity to network with many practitioners and learn about how different groups' approach their work and their missions. The opportunity to create a personal connection with an attorney can pay dividends in not only developing relationships but also create relationships that will last throughout your career. Students should make an effort to attend these events; a small investment of time can pay a large professional dividend. Check the law school and bar association calendars to ensure that you are making the most of these opportunities. For example, this Thursday's Meet the Public Service Employer's Reception at Loyola will feature 51 public interest and non-profit agencies.

MPILCC Update

The Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference (MPILCC) will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Northwestern Law School. The conference is a great way to meet and connect with public interest jobs and employers. You may participate whether or not you previously registered for the conference.
  • If you received one or more interviews, you MUST register in person for the conference between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the conference. Failure to do so will cause your interviews to be cancelled. If you wish to decline interviews, cancel them through the appropriate procedures.
  • If you did not receive any interviews, you can gain interviews in one of two ways. If you were selected as an alternate, you may move into alternate sign-up on January 28 between 12:30 and 6:00 p.m.
  • All students, whether previously registered or not, may register at the conference starting at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the event, where you will receive an open sign-up number. Those interview slots held by students that failed to register between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. that morning will be available for open sign-up. Students will be allowed the opportunity to sign-up in number order, so the earlier you arrive on February 7, the better chance you have securing an interview.
  • Any student may attend Table Talk, a networking event with various participating employers.
Additional details are available on the MPILCC website. Associate Director Alisa Rosales has two programs scheduled for next week to discuss how to make the most of MPILCC. Check out Symplicity today for details and to RSVP for one of these sessions.
